Biography

Curtis was born amongst a lot of uncertainty. He was not expected to survive birth due to his multiple birth defects, mainly a congenital heart defect meaning he has half a working heart.

Treatment was withdrawn for Curtis on Boxing Day 2006 when he was less then 2 months old. Dr's had decided no more could be done. Curtis had other ideas and continued to pull back from the brink. He became stronger and stronger. Unfortunately Curtis fought these battles alone as his parents had decided they could not cope with him.
Curtis spent 11 months in hospital until he came home to live with his new mummy. A nurse who had fallen in love with him when. He underwent 15 operations in his first 3 years of life. Including open heart surgery, a major stomach op and a cochlear implant.
Curtis still has a very uncertain future. He still has a very complex heart, he is unable to eat anything by mouth so is tube fed. He has a poor swollow which has now resulted in lung problems meaning that he is not suitable for further heart surgery. This unfortunately means that Curtis will deteriorate and get weaker. He is blue from having a poor oxygen supply and this will get worse. It has been a hard situation for his family to come to terms with but his mummy is determined to give him a life full of fun and happiness. He goes to Little Harbour children's hospice in Cornwall and they are amazing.
Curtis is a happy boy. He gets frustrated as he can not talk and his hearing is still not great despite the cochlear implant. He uses a wheelchair but has learnt to steer himself around in it so we all have to watch our toes!!!!
Curtis has to have a lot of treatment. He is currently on 4 different antibiotics to help irradiate the nasty bugs in his lungs, he has to have 4 nebulisers a day (which he hates) and next week he has to attend Bristol children's hospital for another small heart procedure.
Curtis is an amazing boy and an inspiration to everyone who knows him. He has defied the dr's expectations at every opertunity and his mummy hopes that this continues.
