BiographyAimee was born on the 06.06.2011 after a fairly normal pregnancy. Aimee was born flat and was resuscitated at birth. She was then transferred to the NICU ward at St Michael's Hospital, Bristol. She was cooled for 2 days and on day 3 had an MRI scan that had shown a severe global injury to the entire brain. Aimee at this point was not expected to live and was showing signs of neonatal seizures that the doctors were unable to control. Aimee was baptized in the hospital the same day and was removed from life support.
As the days passed she continued to breathe on her own and so we decided to take her home to make the most of what time they had left with her. She was being fed through an NG tube and continued to do well. Aimee was diagnosed as having no suck and swallow and we were advised to never try to feed her orally. Aimee was given a dummy to try and improve this and showed great results. A few weeks later, despite medical diagnosis, Aimee was able to drink from a bottle. As the months went by Aimee was also able to eat mashed foods.
Today Aimee is doing well, although she suffers with seizures daily and can only see approx 30cm in front of her face, she is a very happy little girl. She loves sensory play and feeling different textures and smelling different smells. Life is very hard for Aimee but she makes the most of it everyday.
