BiographyJack was born in March 2001, and was a healthy baby. He was not a sickly child at all, barely catching a cold. But, in 2008, Jack developed lots of bruises but we put this down to being a normal boy doing normal boy things. After a while we took him to the doctors thinking they would confirm that we were paranoid parents and that there was nothing to worry about. How wrong we were. We were immediately admitted to the local hospital as Jacks blood counts were dangerously low. He was later diagnosed with Very Severe Aplastic Anaemia - or more simply Bone Marrow Failure. His bone marrow wasnt working , it wasnt making the blood cells he needed and his immune system was very weak. Weeks turned into months of treatment and at nearly six years since diagnosis he is still fighting. Jack was dependent on weekly blood and platelet transfusions and had his first bone marrow transplant in August 2010. Unfortunately, a year later this failed and he needed a second bone marrow transplant in August 2012. Jack has now developed symptoms of kidney failure possibly a side effect of the treatments he has been through.
