BiographySamuel was born 7 weeks early due to an infection during pregnancy, causing brain damage, and spent the first 2 weeks of his life in Special Care. He was diagnosed with Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy at approximately 8 months old and is unable to sit-up, crawl or walk independently due to high tone in his limbs and low tone in his trunk. He experiences difficulty with speech sounds and drooling due to difficulty closing his mouth, although he loves to talk and is improving all the time. He also struggles with fine motor control and requires assistance with all activities of daily living. Samuel was later diagnosed with a Seizure Disorder as a result of the brain damage he experienced, and is treated for this with medication. He is also treated for Gastric Reflux as a result of his condition. Samuel has visual difficulties due to poor sight in his right eye and issues with processing everything that he sees. Samuel is likely to be a Power Chair user and require a communication aid to assist his speech, as well as environmental controls to obtain as much independence as possible in his environment. He is a bright and loving boy, with a great sense of humour. He works really hard to overcome the difficulties that he experiences and is an inspiration and a delight to be with.
