Biography

Seren was a long awaited baby. She was born normally at full term but there was clearly something wrong: she was grey and bubbling from the mouth and unable to cry. A chest x ray confirmed that she had been born, like 1 in 3500 babies, unable to swallow with no connection between her mouth and stomach due to a gap in her oesophagus which also had a misplaced connection to her airway meaning that fluids could enter her lungs. Seren had major surgery at 2 days old to repair these problems. Thus enabled her to feed but had left her with reflux. Food has to be pureed smooth and eating is a daily challenge as food gets stuck easily in her oesophagus on the way down. Seren is bright and happy and brings us joy every moment.
