BiographyMelanie was born with an encephalocele which was removed when she was 4 weeks old, leaving doubts about her sight, hearing and other possible disability that she may have. Great news when we were told at 3 mths old that she could see (needing glasses) and could hear.
Melanies progress has been very slow, she has CP affecting all limbs so uses a wheelchair, though she can bottom shuffle about. She cant speak or sign, but we can usually work out what she wants, and what she dislikes.
Feeding has always been a problem, but she manages a modified diet and has a mini button feeding tube for fluids as she doesn't cope well with oral fluids. Melanie is a very special wee girl, whom we met at 9 weeks old and she now has a permanent place in our hearts and home.
She is happy most of the time and loves her babies, musical toys, bright colours and being around other children. She recognises special people and gives lovely smiles, and cuddles. She never complains when having physio, and seems quite content. Recently she has started to use eyegaze with the computer to allow her to try and make some choices for herself
