BiographyFreddie was born full term on 1st June 2010. It was a straightforward pregnancy and labour but as soon as Freddie was born it was obvious he had health problems. His ears were low set on his head and he wouldn't feed or maintain his body temperature correctly. The doctors suspected he had some type of syndrome but weren't sure which one but would continue to review him.
After a few days in scbu we were allowed home for one night before going back to hospital for an operation on a hernia that Freddie was born with.
After this Freddie had a good few weeks although still wasn't feeding well and seemed to sleep all the time.
At 8 weeks Freddie began getting blood in his stools and would scream with every bottle feed. He was admitted into hospital and diagnosed with a milk protein allergy and reflux. Freddie's weight had also dropped quite low by now due to his feeding issues. Freddie was put on a prescription milk and given reflux medicines. The nurses tried many different techniques to try and encourage Freddie to feed from a bottle but he would refuse. It was decided Freddie would need an ng tube inserting up his nose to get milk into him. Freddie's stay in hospital was very lengthy and it was here that a lot of Freddie's problems were noted.
From then until now Freddie has been on quite a journey. He's had several operations, been diagnosed with epilepsy, had his ng tube replaced with a mickey button in his tummy for feeding and has been putting on a lot of medicines. Freddie has severe developmental delays and cannot walk or talk.
Freddie started school in September for children with additional needs which he loves. His epilepsy has recently increased but despite all his issues he is a happy, fun loving boy.
