Biography

Sophia is one of a twin, her and her identical twin sister were born at 31 weeks after an eventful pregnancy. As soon as the girls were born I was told they would be fine, all initial tests came back normal and they would be home in a matter of weeks. This was true in Sophia sister's case however Sophia spent a very rocky 6 months in NICU.

During this time she would stop breathing for no apparent reason and had to be resuscitated countless times, she was unable to gain weight and caught many life threatening infections. Finally discharge day came and even after me voicing my concerns numerous times I was told Sophia was a perfectly healthy little girl and I should stop comparing her to her twin sister.

Then began a whole life change! Days after being discharged she was rushed back in and admitted for several weeks where a diagnoses of cerebral palsy was given and she became strictly nil by mouth. Sophia had a gastrostomy shorty after and spent most of her first year of life in hospital.

Since then Sophia has had frequent admissions due to chest infections and seizures. As she does not look like her identical twin test were ordered to check her DNA, they came back identical. However now Sophia is under investigation for a metabolic syndrome and her recent MRI shows abnormalities they didn't expect. Sophia may have a lack of physical ability but her smile lights up a room and the bond between her and her sister is amazing. We are still going through a full diagnoses but I'm hopeful that one day she will receive one.
