Biography

Harvey was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when I was just 15 weeks pregnant via CVS test. Harvey was born by emergency C section on the 15th November 2013 at 35 weeks. Little did I realise this was going to be a long road to getting him home. I didn't see Harvey for two days as he was rushed to intensive care. He spent two days at local hospital then transferred to the Chelsea and Westminster in London.

Once there he received his first operation on his bowel. He was having trouble with his breathing at this time but nothing was investigated. He was then moved to his 2nd Home(!) The Royal Brompton. He was very very ill at this point and had to go into intensive care. He was put on a ventilator and he had also caught rsv. This was awful if was very ill and we got phone call to say he wasn't going to make the day we rushed and were with him 24/7.

Slowly he got stronger and was moved to the child's ward and had a camera down throat to see what was going on
They found he had bronctrachmilachia. It was then decide that he needed a tracheostomy as this was the only way to support his breathing. He had that on the 11th April 2014. We were very scared. But need not have been it was the best thing we could have done for him. Harvey went on to improve greatly and remained in hospital still.

In June same year he had a gastrostomy fitted. Again this was a good thing for him. We strived to get Harvey home but he kept having little set backs.

Finally they decided that they were aiming to get him home for end September 2014. We spent months training to look after him and it took a toll on our family as we have 6 other children and no extended family members around. So in August it was decided that Harvey would come home after a 4 week stay after discharge to a local children's hospice. So the end October came and we could take our baby home aged 11 and half months. It was hard and rewarding all at the same time. He has had a couple rocky patches but is doing well at the moment.
