Biography

Megan was born by emergency C-section at 38 weeks. She was showing signs of distress in the womb. When Megan was born she was very sleepy and couldn't stay awake long enough to feed.
At 2 days old Megan was taken to the special care baby unit where she was fed by ng tube. Megan never really learnt to feed properly and is fed by gastrostomy now.
Megan's chromosome abnormality means she has low set ears, no nasal bridge, a hearing impairment and a visual impairment.
When Megan was 8 weeks old an ultrasound of her ventricles revealed she had hydrocephalus and needed a shunt fitted.
Megan spent the first couple of years in and out of hospital and as she has grown bigger, she has got stronger too.
In 2011 Megan's shunt blocked and she ended up in PICU for a few days while they dealt with the problem and fitted a new shunt. Megan also had to have the shunt replaced just before Christmas 2014 when it perforated her bowel and appendix and appeared out of her anus still fully working!
Megan is at risk of catching viruses repeatedly as her immune system doesn't work very well and a simple cold or stomach bug for us ends up in a hospital stay for Megan needing IV fluids.
We are thankful everyday that Megan is still here with us knowing full well any day could be her last.
