Biography

Ben is a twin. He and his brother have congenital heart disease. They were born prematurely at 32 weeks and Ben weighed just 1.7kgs.

Ben quickly struggled to breath and was placed in intensive care where he remained for four weeks. It was discovered that he had narrowing of the aortic arch and was rushed to GOSH for surgery soon after birth.

Ben struggled to breath during the early weeks and as a consequence he was found to also have cerebral palsy. This condition affects his movement, speech and vision. He is registered blind.

At a toddler, Ben is unable to sit, stand or walk. He is learning to make sounds to share meaning.
