Biography

Edward was diagnosed with hydranencephaly at a 32 week scan. The doctors explained that a stroke had caused a normal brain to be reabsorbed, leaving only the Brain Stem. They warned that he was unlikely to survive the birth and if he did, would only live for a short time.

Although he has needed a shunt to drain the excess fluid that has replaced the missing brain and a gastrostomy and Nissen Fundoplication to help with very bad reflux and assist feeding, Edward has defied expectations and is still very much alive 15 months later. He amazes us every day at his determination to cope with breathing, feeding, swallowing - in fact all those things that we all do without thinking.
