Biography

Willow was born by emergency csection after mum went into spontaneous labour ahead of the planned c section. Her delivery was a wonderful experience for all and she came into the world screaming. Her older brother Jakoby has cf, we knew there was a 1 in 4 chance of Willow also having CF but declined any invasive testing. After her birth a sample of blood was taken from her umbilical cord, Willow showed no symptoms at all, she gained weight well, didn't seem overly hungry, didn't seem salty etc. So all signs were good. We had tried to prepare ourselves in case she was diagnosed, but it still came as a huge shock when we receive the phone call saying she did indeed have CF too. She was immediately put on enzymes, antibiotics and vitamins. She started to develop chest and breathing difficulties at a few weeks old and was diagnosed a having CF related asthma. When the air is cold Willow gets very wheezy and gets tired easily from having to work harder to breathe. She has physiotherapy and uses a pep mask daily to help keep her lungs clear and healthy. She is such a happy soul and is always smiling. She's trying to learn to walk at the moment, she learnt to crawl recently around her first birthday and now crawls around at lightening speeds. She loves playing with her big brother and sisters, she loves music and happily dances along. She's had a few extra hospital trips on top of her usual clinic visits, due to her breathing, she enjoys charming all the doctors with her big smile. Her big brother likes to help take care of her and encourages her when she's doing her treatments. She is our little ray of sunshine.
