Biography

I found out at my 20wk scan I was having a boy and he had a serious heart condition called hypoplastic left heart. Dion looked really well when he was born and was hard to believe how poorly he really was. I was given the chance to take dion home for his last hrs/days or under go a serious of 3 heart operations to redirect the blood flow, I chose the 3 stage operation.. Dion had his 1st operation at a day old and was in Birmingham hospital for 4 weeks he recovered very well but was a bit slow on feeding so came home tube fed. Dion was doing well untill around 7 weeks old when he got septicaemia and a blood clot on his heart and had to have the 1st operation repeated. After this dion spent a very long time in hospital due to complications and feeding problems. But eventually he came home and continued to do well . Dion had his 2nd stage operation around 6mths of age and done so well he was home within a few wks. Dion continued to do well although struggled with the cold weather due to poor circulation. . In 2008 dion was 7 yrs old and underwent the 3rd stage operation we was in hospital for 6 weeks due to needing to go on a no fat diet to help with lose of fluid. Dion returned to school and done well but unfortunately at Xmas 2008 dion had to go back in hospital and have a chest drain to remove fluid around heart and he came home in January just before his birthday. Dion continues to do well but is trundling with school, he is also very small in weight and height compared to his friends. Doctors have now found dion may need a pacemaker as dions heart slows down during exercise . Dion will also require a heart transplant in the near future.
