BiographySkyla was born in 2012, my first little girl.
I was over the moon but when I was pregnant with her I found out from problems at our 5 month scan that she had cystic fibrosis. She was born with Meconium Ileus (MI) a condition where the content of the baby's bowel (meconium) is extremely sticky and causes the bowel to be blocked at birth. At 1 day old she needed surgery to remove the poo, she was given a stoma and spent another 3 weeks in hospital waiting for it to work. At the same time we were shown what medication she needed and we had to learn how to give her physio. At 3 months old Skyla went back into hospital for a stoma reversal. After 2 weeks in hospital and getting very ill Skyla finally did a poo (I have never been so happy to see poo in my life!).
Skyla is now nearly 4 years old and she copes with her cystic fibrosis like a little star. She has regular hospital check ups and has to be kept away from people with coughs and colds, this is very hard now she is at nursery. She will be on medication and will have to have physio for the rest of her life but she is such a happy little girl and nothing will beat her. She really was born a little fighter.
