BiographyAdam was born in 2005 and for his first few years progressed like any other child, he walked a little late but still 'within the normal range', it wasn't until he started school that it became apparent that something was not right.
He had always been a clumsy child - prone to falls and constantly had bruised shins but everyone simply put it down to taking after his Mum who is notoriously accident-prone!
His reception class teacher though quickly realised that Adam was significantly behind the rest of his class physically and a referral was made. A diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy quickly followed, which was absolutely devastating.
Since then we have had frequent hospital visits for muscle clinic, heart scans, bone scans and numerous blood tests - the worst bit for Adam as he hates needles!
Adam is still walking which is unusual for a boy of his age with Duchenne, though he uses a wheelchair for longer distances and days out.
He is a loving, kind and sensitive boy who has taken everything life has thrown at him with a smile on his face. Unfortunately the future for Adam holds many obstacles and difficulties so we want him to enjoy life as much as he can.
