Laila received her quilt this afternoon. She was so excited to receive her "first ever post" (her words) and was even more so when she opened it.

It is just beautiful and I know Laila will treasure it forever.

I would like to thank everyone that is involved in creating the quilt. It has inspired me and may take up stitching myself to send onto you, because being on the receiving end seeing a child's reaction is just magic.

Laila is having a sleep over at her Nannys house this evening and has taken it with her.

Biography

Laila was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis around 2.5 weeks old through the new born screening. On day 5 of her check up she had lost 14% body weight despite feeding very well. Before diagnosis we thought that they must have recorded the birth weight wrong! However following her diagnosis the weight loss made sense after the doctor at the hospital explained to us what Cystic Fibrosis was and that it can cause pancreas insufficient. There is no history in the family so this came as a big shock.

Laila started to take her medication (Micro Creon enzymes) and started to gain weight nicely. Since diagnosis Laila has had 2 lots of IV treatment in hospital and takes regular antibiotics, and vitamins. She has 2 lots of Physiotherapy which take approx 20 minutes each session to help loosen the secretions in her lungs each day. Thankfully she tolerates her treatment well.

Laila has just started school. She is full of energy, loves to play with her friends/toy.

Each week she goes to gymnastics twice, swimming, ballet and performing arts. She has a great personally and nothing will stop her achieving what she wants.
