BiographyCharlotte was our first child and at first all seemed normal, but she was late meeting her milestones and so she was referred to the paediatrician. For quite a while she had Global Delay as her diagnosis however an MRI when she was just turned 3 years old showed the molar tooth characteristic of Joubert Syndrome and that became her main diagnosis. We later had that diagnosis confirmed genetically and a causative gene identified of AHI1. Eye tests revealed that she was visually impaired although she uses the vision she does have very effectively. Charlotte uses a Walker to get around at school and propels herself in a manual wheelchair when we are out and about. She also uses signing and a high tech communication device to make herself very clear to everyone around her. Charlotte is a kind and considerate child who does her very best to support her younger brother who also has Joubert Syndrome. |
