Child Interests

Charlotte loves art - she makes fused glass jewellery and mixed media canvases and has even had her own stall at craft fairs. She also loves to do speeches using her AAC device to show what is possible. She rides with our local riding for the disabled group, Haworth RDA every week and loves to meet up with her friends there - she also loves to ride the bigger horses - nothing is ever too much of a challenge! Charlotte also likes to collect art, buying prints from local artists which now adorn our house. Charlotte's favourite colours are purple and pink (heavier on the purple usually with pink hghlights!)

Biography

Charlotte was our first child and at first all seemed normal, but she was late meeting her milestones and so she was referred to the paediatrician. For quite a while she had Global Delay as her diagnosis however an MRI when she was just turned 3 years old showed the molar tooth characteristic of Joubert Syndrome and that became her main diagnosis. We later had that diagnosis confirmed genetically and a causative gene identified of AHI1. Eye tests revealed that she was visually impaired although she uses the vision she does have very effectively. Charlotte uses a Walker to get around at school and propels herself in a manual wheelchair when we are out and about. She also uses signing and a high tech communication device to make herself very clear to everyone around her. Charlotte is a kind and considerate child who does her very best to support her younger brother who also has Joubert Syndrome.
