BiographyJennifer was born by emergency section in August 2003, we thought everything was fine. She was late hitting all her milestones but when she started to talk, something became very noticable. Jennifer has no Welsh accent, she sounds very posh or like the Queen Mother is how it has been described. At the moment we can have 5 different accents in a conversation!
We now know this is due to a learning disorder called Semantic and Pedantic disorder that is probably caused due to her having a section of heterotopic matter in her frontal lobes.
When Jennifer was about 20 months old she had her first big seizures and was hospitalised. They couldn't give us any answers until she was nearly 4 when they diagnosed epilepsy and did the MRI scan that found the damaged area. Jennifer has several different forms of seizures, which make them difficult to control. The seizures are causing her memory loss and therefore she doesn't remember Christmas or holidays.
Jennifer has a wheelchair for when we go out as she tires very easily and has severe joint pains. Jennifer attends a speech and language unit and is delayed developmentally. She doesn't associate with children her own age as she can get very distressed when they do things she can't. Jennifer will obsess about a programme or character and then we all have to pretend to be from the same film or cartoon, so one day I could be a Disney character and another day a cat!!
Even with everything she faces I wouldn't change her, Jennifer is generally a happy little girl with a really wicked giggle who loves a cuddle.
