Biography

Hollie was diagnosed at aged 3 with Spinal Muscular atrophy type 3.

Hollie has 3 older siblings and what we thought were signs of laziness were signs that she had a progressive muscle wasting condition. I remember the day I took Hollie to a soft play area and noticed that she was unable to keep up with her peers and was struggling with simple tasks like climbing upstairs to running and hopping. After a few days I started to notice she wasn't even attempting the stairs at home so decided to speak with my health visitor who could also see what I could see so decided to send Hollie for a assessment in a play environment with a physio.

Following this assessment the physio told me she could see signs of floppiness and was going to refer me to see a paediatrician for further tests. After an 8 week wait and further tests including blood tests we were called into the hospital to hear the news that Hollie had a confirmed diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
