BiographyRebecca was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus. She had her first operation at 2 days old this was to close her back.
Rebecca developed hydrocephalus at 4 weeks old and at 6 weeks old she had her first shunt fitted, within 24 hours this shunt was infected and she had to have it removed. She had her next shunt at around 5 months old. At 9 months Rebecca had her hips pinned into place due to hip displacia - she was in a body cast for 6 weeks.
Since then, Rebecca has had her tendons in the back of her knees streched and was in a cast for another 6 weeks - this didn't work and in 2014 she had pins in her knees to straighten her legs and was in a cast for another 6 weeks. When they took the cast off after 6 weeks she had developed an infection in one of her knees and was in a lot of pain.
In July of 2017 Rebecca developed a lot of headaches and at a recent eye appointment we found out she had a lot of pressure behind her eyes which was due to a shunt blokage, Rebecca had this shunt replaced in July/August 2017, after a week Rebecca became very very poorly and it was discovered that she had an infection in her shunt. Rebecca was rushed into hospital to have her shunt removed and an external drain fitted to drain the infection from her head. She was in hospital for 3 weeks before she received another new shunt.
Rebecca is now doing very well and is at home enjoying spending time with her family and is very excited to be back at school.
