BiographyLeighton was born in 2006, he was our first child and we were young teenage parents. We bought Leighton home and settled into family life.
Leighton had the newborn screening as most newborns do, he failed to gain weight even though he was having bottles every two hours. On 13th November at 5pm there was a knock at the front door. Two nurses stood on our doorstep they introduced themselves and most of what they said is a blur all I remember is ‘we are sorry Leightons newborn screening result shows he has Cystic Fibrosis’. We didn’t know anything about his condition but we learnt quickly how to care for his extra needs Leighton has spent an awful lot of time in hospital - his lungs have had to endure infection after infection, his veins finally gave up in 2016 and access has been almost impossible.
After yet another admission Leighton had to have a vascular port fitted in early 2017 which now all his intravenous antibiotics are administered through and his bloods are taken from which makes his life easier.
Everyday Leighton does hours of treatments to keep himself healthy from medication, physiotherapy and nebulisers.
Leighton is only 11 but he shown us how strong he is and how life needs living day by day.
Unfortunately 3 weeks ago his newborn baby sister was diagnosed with the same condition his bravery shows us we can get through this.
We are so proud of him.
We have asked for a quilt as he spends weeks in hospital and it will be a little bit of normal for him x
