The love quilt arrived today, thank you everyone, it's amazing! This is the best photo I can get at the minute as Nicola is still sleeping, wasn't well earlier, she knows the quilt is here but couldn't keep her eyes open so I'll take more photos later when she's awake xxx

Biography

Nicola was born on 18th July 2003, much to our delight and her sister Lauren. Nicola arrived by emergency C section and seemed to be doing fine until she was 4 months old. She began having seizures. Each seizure became a medical emergency and lots of hospital admittances over the years. She was diagnosed with epilepsy at 6 months old and began ED drugs to try and control her status szs. No drugs controlled the seizures and the doctors kept telling us it would be trial and error.
She wasn't meeting all her development milestones so at 4 yrs old she also was diagnosed with autism.

Last June the doctors discussed testing her for a genetic epilepsy known as Dravet syndrome or SMEI and we got a diagnosis of Dravet's Syndrome. We finally knew why she had begun to seize very early on in life.

Nicola is a happy little 8yr old now and enjoys going to special school. We live in Banbridge, NI.
