BiographyPaige was born in Glasgow at 36 weeks gestation. She spent 24 hours in NICU to help her breathing. Paige grew to be a happy and healthy toddler, she never took unwell.
In August I found 3 lumps in her neck and took her to the GP who told me it was viral. Two days later I took her back as she was constantly crying because her head hurt. She had swollen lymph glands all over her body, was very pale, not eating and very tired. The GP said it was viral and to give her calpol. Two days later her stomach was very hard and I took her to the out of hours GP, they found her spleen enlarged and referred her to the Children’s hospital.
Within 30 minutes of doing a blood test they confirmed that Paige had Leukaemia. Paige’s white blood count was 470, normal count is between 4-10. For the first week they tried to bring her blood count down to a safe level in order to start chemotherapy.
Paige has been an in-patient for pretty much all of the past 8 months. She underwent some brutal treatment, suffered several bloodstream infections, liver and kidney problems and mucositis.
Through all of this she would sleep when unwell and play and smile when she is well. Paige has a love for baby dolls and princesses. Princess Anna and Aurora are her favourites.
