Biography

This all began for Mia when she had an ear infection which she could never recover from, then more and more symptoms would slowly start to show. First her legs hurting, weight loss, and generally not being her happy self. Mia was a very able child until the white blood cells wouldn’t stop attacking. This condition means the white blood cells attack her heart muscles and gut. This resulted in her being unable to walk.
With lots of physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, medications and doctors appointments we slowly but surely are starting to settle things down. This condition has no cure! We spend a lot of time in hospital for treatments, check-ups and blood tests!
After being on a high doses of steroids for months, Mia started experiencing severe pain in her back, so bad her legs would give way. After an X-ray and MRI it was clear Mia had 18 crushed fractures to her spine! She is on regular treatment to help try and build the bones back up! We are very hopeful that we will only need another 1-2 years treatment for this!
