BiographyFreddy has always been a happy, fit and well baby then in May I noticed he had a rash on his neck but he was still happy in himself. The next day he was playing in the swimming pool with his two sisters and I noticed the purple rash was now on his legs and his legs were starting to bruise really badly. I took him straight to the children’s walk in centre, where they took bloods and said they were very concerned about the bruising.
After waiting a while for his bloods a nurse come in and said they were really concerned for Freddy as one of his bloods was really high. Half an hour later 3 members of staff came in and asked me and Freddy's dad to sit down and they told us he had suspected leukaemia.
My whole world stood still for 24 hours. I didn’t know what to do say or think! They then told us we would be blue lighted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool but they needed to get him as stable as possible first and he needs a blood transfusion and platelet transfusion. At 5 in the morning a nurse came into our room and said they were ready for Freddy so we went to Alder Hey where we met Freddy's consultant.
It was confirmed after a few more tests that he has ALL. Freddy has to go to theatre for LB, bone marrow and chemotherapy. Our little boy who was full of life literally got more and more poorly. Since then we have spent more time in hospital than at home.
4-5 weeks into chemo he lost all his hair but he just gets up and gets on with it. Freddy will have to undergo 3 years of treatment where he will then hopefully have a full recovery. It’s going to be a long hard road for us but just seeing Freddy smile makes things so much easier.
