Biography
When Caleb was born after 24 hours I realised something was not right, he wasn't responsive as he should be and was distended and pale. We were rushed into hospital by ambulance and after a week and a half he had a diagnosis of Hirschsprungs disease following a biopsy.
He had to have an operation but in the meantime we had to help him poop using washouts at home. At about 1.5 years he wasn't reaching milestones and acted very differently to his peers, it was hard work. A lovely health visitor noticed and pushed for him to be referred. We were fortunate and had a diagnosis early on of autistic spectrum disorder with sensory issues. Caleb has no danger awareness and struggles daily with his autism as well as his bowels and will possibly continue to be in nappies for many years. Beyond his struggles and communication barrier he is a wonderful happy boy.
