Biography

Aston was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at 3 years old. Duchenne is a progressive muscular wasting disease which effects every muscle in the body,
From 3yrs old onwards Aston has gradually lost the use of all of his main muscles.
He lost the ability to to walk at 7years old and has used a powerchair ever since. He can no longer lift his arms or sit unaided.
Since 11yrs old Aston’s heart and lungs have been significantly impacted. He only has 17% lung capacity now and is in cardiomyopathy.
Aston has just had 2 spinal surgeries to correct scoliosis of the spine. He spent 4 weeks in ICU and continues now to use a ventilator at home.
Despite his medical complexities Aston continues to be a positive, bright and intelligent GCSE student who dreams of university in the future.
