Biography

Megan was very floppy and wouldn't feed when she was born. We received a diagnosis of Prader-willi syndrome when she was 2 months old. She was tube-fed until she was 6 months old and couldn't walk until she was nearly 3. She still has low muscle tone at nearly 17 years old and finds walking a long way extremely tiring and cannot ride a bike or do other things children take for granted.
The main part of Prader-willi syndrome is that the hypothalamus doesn't work properly so Megan feels constantly hungry even when she has just eaten. If her diet is not controlled she could become morbidly obese and pass away from complications this could cause. We have managed to control Megan's weight but it is extremely hard as she has meltdowns as she is constantly hungry. We have to have locks on all our cupboards in the kitchen. Megan attends a special needs school and has learning difficulties so her mental age is much younger than her actual age.
