BiographyJack was born at 32 weeks (8 weeks premature) by spontaneous labour and was born naturally. He was taken to NICU straight away where he was ventilated. He came off ventilation after a few days and remained on CPAP for a while before breathing for himself. At 5 days old they gave Jack a brain scan which revealed that he had had a bleed to the brain and he also had water on the brain. We were told that this could indicate that he would have cerebral palsy but they wouldnt know until later on when he should be reaching the milestones that most children reach. Jack was about 6 months old when we were reviewed and given the all clear until i mentioned to the consultant that he held his arms very strangely and seemed very stiff in his arms and his hands were permanantely clenched tight into a fist. The consultant then referred him to a physiotherapist who diagnosed him with cerebral palsy. Jack has had several operations, he has had eye surgery, tendon release surgery on his legs and later the same on his feet and he has had metal rods down his spine due to a scoliosis. Most recently he has had surgery to correct a semi dislocated hip and had metal plates put into both hips and hamstring lengthening. Jack's father died when he was 22 months old and despite everything he goes through and all the pain and suffering he goes through he is a charming young man who always has a smile on his face. Jack enjoys school and he goes to a special needs youth club one a week which he loves and his biggest love is for football, he loves to go and watch our local team Norwich City Football Club and even had the honour of being a mascot for the day recently for them. He had an amazing day and cant stop talking about it.
