Biography

Nathan was born in 2004 and was healthy and happy. He remained this way excelling in school and martial arts and fundraised for Whizz kidz until he was 13.

In November of 2017 he climbed Pen y Fan a popular mountain in Wales with no effort at all. On Christmas Eve 2017 Nathan did a sea swim at 8am and came home to enjoy Christmas celebrations. By Christmas morning he was extremely unwell with chickenpox. His temperature was 43 he was hallucinating and passing out. He had chickenpox in his ears throat and inside his eyelids. Boxing day I took him to the GP for the first time and they told me he was suffering a bad case of chickenpox and prescribed antivirals. The next week was hard. He slowly improved to a degree but when it came to going back to school he struggled with the walk he had always enjoyed with his friends. By January 9 he had lost over a stone in weight and had pain in his legs so I took him back to the GP who diagnosed him with post viral fatigue.

A battle began between them and me at that point. We returned numerous times but the GP refused to refer him to a specialist. At one point Nathan lost 1/2 a stone in 2 days. Finally they referred him to a pediatric ward for tests but again they continued down the road of post viral fatigue.

Finally on 18th February after much emotion they referred him for a bone marrow test which he had on 22nd February and he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia high risk level. He was weeks away from death at this point. From there we had a plan and he has powered through with grace and dignity you don't see until you visit children's oncology.

He has had knock back after knock back from having his appendix removed, kidney stones, sepsis and AVN to name a few. He missed most of years 9, 10 and 11 but it didn't stop him sitting his GCSEs and passing them with excellent grades. He still struggles with mobility and uses an electric chair for any sort of distance. He is currently waiting to start his A levels and hopefully put cancer behind him for good.
