Thank youA fabulous gift has arrived for Ashley from the incredibly talented, international volunteer group of cross stitchers at LoveQuiltsUK.
Ashley was selected to receive a personalised quilt created with a “theme”based on his favourites - Star Wars, Harry Potter and Superheroes.
The quality and detail - just perfect. Ashley loves it and sends his thanks. He seemed a bit overwhelmed that people that don’t know him have made this.
Thank you to Gail C who contacted me regarding this very special group of people and I submitted an application. Gail also made the Star Wars logo cross stitch square
Ashley loves a blanket but this is just something else.
Many thanks to everyone involved in producing the quilt. It will be treasured.

BiographyAshley was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) after 3 years of trying to get the right diagnosis. DMD is a truly heartbreaking progressive condition which takes away Ashley’s abilities over time. It is a life limiting condition and sadly 100% fatal currently. DMD mainly affects boys and occurs in 1 for every 3500 live male births. Boys are usually full time wheelchair users by their early teens. Life expectancy has increased with improved standards of care but remains mid to late 20’s. Sadly too many of the DMD community see deaths from the age of 11.
Ashley has been involved in clinical trials from the age of 7. His first was a study to consider the impact of daily steroid use and his most recent trial was to see whether a breast cancer treatment (Tamoxifen) can offer some benefit. There are no treatments for Ashley that will treat the underlying cause. Ashley inspired our family to set up Action for Ashley and we raised and donated £160,000 to specific research projects for potential treatments that might help Ashley and others like him.
Ashley is the kindest, loving and most thoughtful human I know. Despite his physical challenges and knowing more about the prognosis of his condition, he just gets on with life. He is the captain of the Hull & East Yorkshire Powered Wheelchair Football Academy and will look forward to returning to weekly training post Covid in his new football wheelchair which was funded by supporters and a sports charity. Ashley is a very special boy that loves Star Wars, Harry Potter, Superheroes and his PlayStation. I would like to thank Love Quilts UK for the time and dedication of those involved.
