BiographyBailey was born early and had a rocky start in life, being hospitalised with different illnesses such as bone infections and other issues. He continued to be a very sickly child up until age 4. After being hospitalised with orbital cellulitis, caused by a bang to his head that kept bleeding and got infected, doctors realised his clotting numbers were all very prolonged. They also found a non-innocent heart murmur which turned out to be a growth in his heart which will need to be taken out one day via open heart surgery. This is more risky for children with bleeding disorders so it's something that is being put off as long as possible.
Bailey struggles with his joints as they swell frequently. He has treatment regularly but will not speak to any doctors or nurses any more and was diagnosed with selective mutism alongside sensory issues. It is unclear if he is on the spectrum but it is something that we don't want to test for as he sees enough of hospitals already and we wouldn't want to put him through more appointments and stress.
He has to be very careful to avoid injury because of his bleeding issues which causes him a lot of stress as, when he is injured, it results in a trip to hospital which he is desperate to avoid. Having this special blanket will hopefully help with visits to hospital and comfort him when he is extremely stressed.
