BiographyFinley always suffered with gastric problems as a baby. We tried cutting foods out, such as dairy, soya and wheat, which helped. He had terrible eczema as a result of an intolerance. After lots of backwards and forwards to the Dr he was seen in A&E where he was seen by a specialist who agreed something wasn't right. At 18 months old we went to GOSH where he underwent biopsies on his stomach. This showed he had colitis and dairy and soya were irritating it. He was put on a prescribed milk which he hated! We were mostly able to manage his gastric problems by cutting all cows milk from his diet. His skin got better and he seemed more settled generally.
Once at school, teachers became concerned about his lack of concentration and focus. He was referred to a paediatrician and after years of appointments and assessments he was diagnosed with ADHD and some sensory problems. He ha retained almost all of his newborn reflexes resulting in bed wetting etc. It took 3 years from diagnosis to finally get his dad( separated) to agree Finley needed medication to help regulate his behaviour linked to his ADHD. Finally at the start of year 6 he trialled the medication and since then he is working at his expected age instead of 2 years behind like previously.
He still has ongoing problems with his colitis but we can mostly pin point that down to something he has eaten. He struggles with his emotions and despite being 13 he still very much has the mind of a primary school child.
