Biography

Megan had her first seizure at 2 weeks old. We didn't know at the time that they were seizures. Epilepsy was diagnosed when she was admitted to hospital at 4 months. She is registered blind, hypotonic and up until last year had a severe scoliosis.

When she was around 2 she started to lose her swallow. An NG tube was fitted followed by a gastrostomy 6 months later. She suffered a lot of vomiting over the years which got so bad that a jej tube was being considered. Her consultant advised us to try blended diet. She has been on BD for almost 2 years and vomiting has more or less stopped.

Last November she was admitted to hospital for a spinal fusion. Her scoliosis was at 90°. Today (31/10) was the day we had to isolate for 2 weeks before surgery which took place on Friday 13th November 2020. She was in theatre for 7.5hrs. She remained in hospital for 16 days. Her vomiting returned due to not being allowed to continue with blended diet, apparently not permitted on HDU. After 10 days of vomiting and bringing back formula on free drainage her consultant allowed blended diet to restart. She was then transferred to a general ward and then allowed home on 28 November.

She has recovered well and was discharged from spinal clinic at her follow up appointment in April. She has continued to thrive and is doing well.
