Biography

Congenital Diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a hole in the diaphragm and may be from one inch to several inches across. This results in the intestines (and sometimes the stomach) entering the chest cavity, preventing lung growth. It usually occurs on the left side of the chest. 1 in 2500-3000 babies get this either due to chromosomal issues or just by chance.
In Rosey's case it was right sided which is very rare. Also she had her full liver and stomach up in her chest cavity making it very severe.

I found this out when I was 20 weeks pregnant and was told that Rosey would not make it! I was told to get arrangements in order for Rosey's funeral and to prepare for the worst outcome.

On the day of delivery I didn't get to hold Rosey as she was rushed off to get intubated. On day 7 of Rosey's life she was put on ecmo which is the last option and hope for children with cdh. Without that machine she would not be here today.
She had life saving surgery at Alderhey to correct her diaphragm and pull her organs back into the place they were meant to be.

Because of Rosey's poor lung growth she now has chronic lung disease. Also a shift to her heart, a hole in her heart, and she suffered with seizures at the time of ecmo. 127 days in ICU/hdu and many other hospital wards. We finally got to leave hospital.

Rosey is now 2 years old. she has a Mickey button as she cannot take from a bottle. She's had 4 major surgeries so far in her little life and chances are she will have more in her life. She is now oxygen dependent and has hyperinsulinism (chi baby). She has very low muscle tone/hypermobility which may cause complications for her in future
She is amazing and I'm so blessed and proud to be her mummy
