Biography

Oscar was born full term after a stressful birth. He was a happy baby although didn’t particularly like giving up cuddles to sleep!

Oscar was going to nursery almost full time, spending time with his friends and learning. He then started walking funny and getting tired a lot easier, he was extremely pale (although I hadn't noticed this). I took him to the doctor to check why his walking had suddenly changed a few weeks after first noticing. They put it down to growing pains and encouraged walking.

A couple of weeks later Oscar got a temperature so high calpol and ibuprofen weren’t helping alongside now being able to only take a few steps - so we went to a&e.

We then went through 3 hospitals for MRI and X-rays trying to figure out what was wrong. They found hairline fractures all over his legs but couldn’t understand why. We then went to Southampton to have a bone marrow test to rule out leukaemia and neuroblastoma.

Three days later we had a diagnosis of ALL. It was a shock but Oscar has taken it in his stride and is thriving. He’s now in remission so can stay on the lowest regime for his cancer which is brilliant news. We are currently in hospital for a central line infection, but it’s now cleared and just have to stay in for the antibiotics. Oscar is very much looking forward to going home to sleep in his new big boy bed!
