Biography

Owain was a very premature little boy, born at 26 weeks. At only 2 weeks old he became severely ill with a condition called necrotising enterocolotis. He very nearly died and we were told to expect the worst. But he kept fighting! Got better, got stronger and got bigger and he got to come home.

Once he was about 18 months old, we started to notice a lot of difference between him and other children his age. It wasn't just the developmental milestones which we knew he'd be slower at, it was the way he also did things. So began the process of getting a diagnosis for autism.

When he was 5, NEC or the consequences of it reared its head again. This time he had a life threatening bowel obstruction. He was transferred to a hospital over an hour away from us that has a specialist children's surgery unit. Once again he defied the odds and came home to us!

When he was 6 we finally had his diagnosis of autism! 4 years it took in total! But once he was given it, it opened up a whole new world for him. Different school options too.

Age 7 he finally got the change in school placement he required, and has since flourished. We're all very proud of him. He's now learning to read and write, loves all aspects of gaming and anime. Especially ones from Japan! He's so happy and loves his younger brother. This has helped him immensely with tolerating the younger children in his class. He even helps the teachers now with them.
