Thank youMcKenna would just like to say a big thank you to each and every person who took the time to create such a beautiful blanket. She absolutely loves it and gets so many comments regarding it when we're in hospital the nurses love it

BiographyMcKenna was born at 35 weeks. Due to a bleed on her brain which was noted at scans she was born needing CPR. McKenna was placed on life support and in the first 24 hours she had 63 seizures. We were then told to prepare for the worst and told McKenna wasn't going to make it past the first 48 hours. An MRI was then done to see how bad the damage on her brain was. McKenna's MRI shows damage on both front and back parts of the brain. This meant her future wasn't going to be straight forward. I insisted we gave her 72 hours to show sings of improvement. If none, I'd allow her breathing equipment to be turned off. But McKenna had other ideas. With medication she showed signs of improvement but things were still very uncertain. Until I went down to special care one day and saw she'd opened her little eyes. In that moment looking into her big blue eyes I knew she was here to stay and fight no matter what.
We stayed in hospital for a while and she improved every day until we finally got to leave the hospital together. We've attended many appointments over the years. We've spent weeks on end in hospital having tests and physio or just generally being unwell. She's attended every appointment with a smile on her face and she never lets her disabilities get to her.
She's now 5 years old and blossoming each day. She has mobility issues and wears smo and a leg brace along with her bright pink helmet for school. She is an amazing little girl living life to the fullest. She's currently having tests done to determine how her mobility will be going forward as she's struggling to maintain her mobility and in a lot more pain. She takes medication daily but it's just not helping as much as we'd like. But we're ready to have these tests and find a way to make McKenna's future comfortable when it comes to her mobility.
She's just taken part in her first ever anti bullying campaign at school and went to her first ever Sheffield United football match. She's one strong little girl who never lets anything stop her.
