Biography

Asharla was born without issues and although slightly delayed in her 1st milestones professionals were not concerned. At 13 months old Asharla had her 1st seizures which led to her having over 20 seizures within 24 hours.

Asharla spent a couple of months in hospital recovering and re learning lost skills. This then prompted genetic testing which took 8 years to find the diagnosis. Asharla was then found to have an inactive SMC1A gene. This leaves her completely dependent on adults for all aspects of care. She is non verbal and not able to weight bear, therefore she’s a full time wheelchair user which in turn has made her bones brittle with tight and low muscle tone causing fractures and severe cramps in her legs.

Despite all of this Asharla is a happy girl. Her smile lights up a room. She is so strong and faces everything with her smile .
