BiographyDottie was born at 34 weeks, she weighed 3lb 5oz and was so tiny and beautiful. We spent over 2 weeks in the neonatal unit. During our stay extra bloods were taken for genetic testing. We then went home to join my son Leo, aged 7 Dottie's brother and my husband Tom, it was the best family bubble.
A few months went by and we received the results from the bloods which Confirmed Dottie had 2 genetic conditions, trisomy 4p and deletion 18p. It felt like our world flipped upside-down, we had no idea what any of it meant.
Time went on and hospitals became our second home visiting doctors and therapists, it became unbearable. The diagnosis kept building thick and fast, such as septo-optic dysplasia, dysyonia, undiagnosed seizures, possible cerebral palsy, rathke cleft cyst, global development delay, nonverbal and that's just to name a few.
Dottie has been through so much during her 4 years of life, more than most in a lifetime. Countless tests and hospital stays, there's been numerous times we've come close to losing her.
All that being said, she is my inspiration in life. She smiles daily, brings us so much joy, and no words will ever explain how proud we are of her. She really is a special little lady who has brought a whole new perspective on life for us.
