Thank you

He can't smile but he really does love it. It went straight over him! I would like to say thank you so much for all the work that has gone into it, it really is a work of art.

Biography

Jacob has congenital myotonic dystrophy and had a difficult start in life. He was ventilated at birth as he could not breath unaided. He spent several weeks in intensive care weaning him off the ventilator and feeding tubes. He was an extremely floppy baby and could not sit until about 18mths and did not walk until 2. Jacob was not predicted to survive and we were told he would never walk or talk. He has succeeded in doing both. We were then told he would be a full time wheelchair user by the age of 6.

Jacob is now 16. He has had several procedures done including the fitting of a pacemaker. He has begun to deteriorate and has started to use a power wheelchair. He cannot walk very far and must not overuse his muscles as this will speed up the deterioration. He attends a physical and neurological school and is in the 6th form.

I call Jacob a complex mix up of a very young child and an old man all wrapped up in a teenager body with the usual teenage attitude. Jacob got into super Mario a couple of years ago and has a Mario themed bedroom. He also has a fascination for dogs although only the stuffed variety!! - as he is frightened of real dogs and their bark.

Jacob is a really loving boy who wants to hug everyone he meets which can be a problem especially during covid.
