Biography

Isla was born at 34 weeks and was our miracle baby after 15 long years of failed IVF and miscarriages. Due to breathing difficulties Isla was in Neonatal unit when she was born, Isla was then treated with antibiotic, tube-fed, double phototherapy for 4 days due to severe jaundice. We were in hospital for 10 days and Isla was diagnosed with Trisomy 21 and a heart defect, feeding difficulties and hearing issues. From the moment Isla was born she made our world complete and you finally understand what love really means.

Isla also has Autism, sensory processing difficulties, sight issues and hearing loss, pre-verbal, delayed developmentally, mobility issues, spoon fed due to feeding issues and sensory aversions to types of food and needs help with drinking. Isla attends a specialist Nursery.

Isla has continual multiple and changeable on-going obsessions/repetitions which include a variety of behaviours, and requires constant supervision as has a very limited understanding of risks and does not understand danger and any warnings. Isla is seated in a specialist harnessed Therapy Chair for her safety and postural care and receives full support for all personal care needs. Isla requires constant interaction, repetition, supervision, and one-to-one support throughout the day and night to ensure is stimulated and safe.

Since birth, Isla has always had never ending hospital appointments, but she never complains, just smiles and continues to amaze and inspire us every day. Isla is a very lively, determined, strong-willed and sociable little girl who is extremely happy and always has a huge smile on her face and a big wave for everyone she sees. Isla brightens up everyone’s day who meets her and makes the world a better place!
