BiographyJenson appeared completely healthy at birth but struggled to reach his developmental milestones in his first year. Signs that something was wrong included delayed speech, not being able to lift his tummy off the floor when attempting to crawl and when he was picked up it felt as though he could slip through your hands due to looseness around his underarm. Blood tests revealed the diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy on his first birthday. This was a huge shock hearing our baby boy has a progressive muscle wasting condition with no cure. He will lose his mobility, have heart and respiratory problems and will lose the ability to even hug as his arm muscles will be affected too.
Jenson is now 10 years old and completely unaware of his condition. He loves life and has so much energy and always smiling. Thankfully he is still mobile but his muscles are wasting away. One day he will wake to find he may not be able to walk. He takes daily steroids, heart medication and supplements to help his bones which are affected by his condition and from the steroids. The past year has been difficult because the steroids have weakened his bones causing compression fractures in his vertebrae.
Jenson has two different diagnoses which have caused learning difficulties and linked to autism, adhd and sensory impairment. He has many daily challenges however is determined to live life to the fullest.
