BiographyLauryn was born on July 3rd 2003 after a long labour!! 8 weeks after she was born she was admitted to Peterborough hospital with a viral infection & stayed there for 4 days. Following this, Lauryn was plagued by weekly eye infections which resulted in an operation when she was 3 years old to unblock a tear duct.
Last year (2008), Lauryn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, 4 days after her 5th birthday. We had only taken her to the GP because her tummy was bloated & he discovered that her liver was enlarged which resulted in blood tests & a diagnosis which devastated us. She was then put on the highest regime of chemotherapy as she has been deemed high risk from tests.
Recently, she has contracted a nasty fungal infection called Aspergillus, which meant that she was in hospital for 4 weeks, her chemo was stopped & she has daily medicines now until the infection has cleared which could be months.
Despite these set backs, Lauryn has remained a lovely, bright, cheerful, bubbly child who has the wonderful ability of being able to brighten any room she enters. She has coped remarkably well with everything she has had to deal with & remains an absolute hero in our eyes.
