Biography

Harley was diagnosed with his disability at my 20 week scan. They said he had Dandy Walker syndrome and also 2 holes in his heart and a missing valve. They told me he would have to have open heart surgery and also a hydrocephalus shunt. Harley was born at 35 weeks at Manchester Children’s Hospital and spent the majority of his first few months in the neonatal unit and high dependency. He came home around 3/4 months before which he had open heart surgery and also his shunt operation. He was also fed by ng tube until he got a peg which he no longer has because we managed to get him eating and drinking.

During 8 years now of Harley’s life he’s been in and out of hospital which has a strong effect on Harley’s anxiety which we are getting help with. He has had 27 shunt operations and a cardiac arrest in 2020 due to getting fluid on his lungs and spent a week in intensive care.

Harley’s been through so much but remains a happy smiley caring boy. He’s just got a place in a special needs school too which he is looking forward to starting in September. Harley also has use of a wheelchair as his legs tire really easily. Due to his disability and health he also wears a blue helmet for the protection of his head due to his shunts.

Harley is super brave and he’s a solider in our eyes. We are so proud of him and the strength he has after what he’s been through.
