Biography

Alaw was born at 38 weeks by emergency c-section due to her mum becoming gravely ill with HELLP Syndrome. Due to this, Alaw sustained a severe brain injury following a traumatic birth. She was therapeutically cooled for 72 hours to try and reduce any further brain injury.

Alaw has a diagnosis of quadriplegic spastic and dystonic Cerebral Palsy. She isn't able to sit, stand, crawl or walk. She is non-verbal but she has plenty to say! Alaw communicates with her eyes, facial expressions and makes noises to indicate some of her wants, needs, her likes and dislikes.

She is not able to feed herself as she cannot use her arms or hands. Alaw is orally fed - her favourite things to eat are Nice biscuits, raspberries and anything that includes chocolate! She had surgery for a gastrostomy tube in August 2023 so that medication and fluids can be given easily. She currently has 15 doses of medication a day.

Alaw has the cutest pink glasses to help her see better. She has a cheeky smile and the most infectious laugh. Everyone loves her beautiful curly hair.

She enjoys all sorts of different music, from her favourite Welsh nursery rhymes, to Jonas brothers to Foo fighters! Alaw is happiest when she is on the swing in the garden or when she's reading books with her Nain (grandmother).
