Child Interests

Harry is obsessed with Lego and Minecraft at the moment. He also likes Spiderman and jigsaws. His favourite colours are blue and purple with a bit of pink thrown in.

Biography

Harry was born at 31 weeks weighing just over 3lbs. There was a risk of him not surviving in the womb from 14 weeks due to constant bleeds. When I got sepsis, Harry was born via emergency c-section and spent two weeks in NICU on antibiotics. Between the age of 3 and 4 months he had been admitted to hospital 5 times with bronchiolitis/pneumonia where he required Oxygen and IV antibiotics. He was referred to Manchester Children’s hospital last year and after a CT scan, was diagnosed with Post Infection Bronchiolitis Obliterans which means the small airways of his lungs have been permanently damaged and scarred. He was given a combination of medications of flixotide inhalers, montelukast and an antibiotic, azithromycin, which he is to take 3 times a week.

At this stage we don’t know if the disease is progressive but because he is more prone to chest infections, we have an urgent marker with the GP so any sign of crackles he has to have a course of Co-amoxicillin for between 2-4 weeks to try to prevent further damage. He regularly needs this extra course of medicine approximately every other month. In September 2024 just after starting school, he was admitted to hospital for 2 weeks of IV antibiotics and a bronchoscopy to check and flush out his lungs. He also started physio for his lungs which he needs to conduct twice daily to try to cough up and move the secretions. We were advised that it may be that Harry has to go in regularly for this treatment.

In May of this year, the GP saw Harry and advised us to go to the hospital because his lungs were sucking in. After more x-rays and blood tests we were allowed to go home with another course of strong antibiotics and his appointment to see the consultant has been brought forward to June.

Harry is a happy and loving little boy, small for his age but he definitely makes up for that with personality. He finds the constant medicines and physio hard. A few times when at Squirrel Scouts, he has laid down on the hall floor and fallen asleep. Last week, he fell asleep at school. Thankfully the school have been very supportive.

I don’t have a public webpage for my child but I do post updates on my Facebook page to update my friends and family.
