Biography

Emma was born a blue baby, who could not feed properly and had difficulty breathing. Emma spent 6 weeks failing and wasn't expected to survive. She did not do what other kids her age did and was admited to hospital again for tests and was found to have severe developmental delay.

We went to the neurological unit at Yorkhill hospital and after many visits we got the provisional diagnosis of Angelman Syndrome.

We struggled along for a few years with many chest infections, seizures etc and at one time we were living for a year in hospital as she would not come out of the seizures and ended up paralysed down her left side and was unable to sit, stand, walk etc for a long, long time.

Emma wotks hard to achieve what she has managed to achieve, she is determined and headstrong and I wouldn't change her for the world. Emma cannot talk, can walk at times but at other times she is wheelchair bound. Emma is also rone to breaking her leg due to falling as her balance is not great and her awareness of surroundings is very poor.

Emma is a happy girl but has a struggle everyday of her life
