BiographyKatie is a beautiful 10 year old girl who was sadly diagnosed with Infantile Battens Disease at the age of 4 years old. Katie's illness sadly is non-treatable and is terminal.
Katie was normal up until 1 years old, with no problems at all until she started losing her skills such as walking, sitting, eating and drinking and sadly all speech she had gained up until a year is now gone. She lost her eyesight at the age of 4 and is now confined to a wheelchair with no use of her limbs or even head control. She also has epilepsy along with the disease and is fed through a gastrostomy tube in her stomach.
Just recently Katie has suffered many infections in her chest and has regressed so much she now needs an airway tube down her nose to help with suction and clearing any secretions from her chest. She is on oxygen and needs constant 24hr care from nurses and mum and family.
Katie is currently very poorly and needing more and more intervention to keep her out of hospital and at home with her family.
Although Katie has all of these problems she is still a loveable little girl and her family try and give her the best quality of life she can have. She attends school as much as she can and she also has a little brother and sister who she loves dearly. Katie is a typical 10 year old girl that loves pop music, tv/films, getting her nails painted, doing arty things and because she is a princess she often gets hand and foot massages too!
One little smile maybe even twice a week is enough to make her mummy smile.
